Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who receives the email of all the applicants who apply?

A: The applications go directly to the foundation website's inbox https://www. garyrhodesscholarship.org/ apply and a copy goes directly to the board members.

 

Q: How & when will the foundation receive donations?

A: The bank account is set up for official use of proceeds. We accept donations here,  Cash App, and via cash donations.

 

Q: Who has visibility to the donations?

A: The treasurers have the bank account access  and all of the apps to be able to see the money movement for clear visibility.

 

Q: Where are the by laws?

A: The by-laws can be found at the bottom of this page.

 

Q: Do we have a mission statement?

A: Yes, click here and this the purpose statement below:

"The Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, to provide scholarships to students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and an interest in sports and service, in memory of Gary Rhodes."

Q: What about donations under $250 for tax purposes?

A: They are tax deductible, but the donor is responsible for keeping their own record of the contribution (such as a canceled check, bank statement or credit card record.)

 

Q: What about donations over $250 for tax purposes?

A: The IRS requires the donor to obtain a written acknowledgement (receipt) from the organization that includes:

 

  • The amount donated.

  • Statement of whether any goods or services were received.

  • The organization's name and EIN.

  • Date of the contribution.

Q: Where is the 501 (C) (3) document stored?

A: This is public information and can be accessed "once its available" by following the link and saving this e-mail for quick reference

Q: What is the duty and responsibility list?

  • President: Leads the organization, presides at meetings, acts as chief spokesperson, and ensures adherence to the mission.

  • Vice President: Supports the President, acts in their absence, and assists with oversight of key initiatives.

  • Secretary: Maintains meeting minutes, records, and official documents. Sends notices and ensures recordkeeping.

  • Treasurer: Oversees finances, prepares budgets and financial reports, maintains banking records, and ensures proper fiscal practices.

  • Committees: The board may establish committees, such as a Scholarship Committee or Fundraising Committee, to carry out specific duties and shall be appointed by the Board and serve at its discretion.
